UTEP Soccer Hosts 2nd Annual Border Bash
The UTEP soccer team will play a pair of home games this weekend when it challenges Houston Baptist at 7 p.m. on Friday and Prairie View A&M at 1 p.m. on Sunday. Both matches will be held at University Field and are a part of the second-annual Border Bash.
Friday’s match is “Orange Out Night,” with fans who wear their UTEP orange receiving free admission to the contest. The promotion for Sunday is “Take A Kid To A Game Day,” with kids getting in free with the purchase of an adult ticket.
“We are very excited to host the Border Bash Tournament this weekend in conjunction with New Mexico State,” UTEP head coach Kevin Cross said. “We are looking forward to the games, and we hope that El Paso and UTEP can come out and support us. The El Paso and UTEP Soccer fans were incredible last Friday versus New Mexico State. We cannot thank them enough.”
UTEP toppled I-10 rival New Mexico State, 2-0, in front of a school-record 1,705 fans in its season opener on Aug. 19. Junior Tess Hall scored both goals for the Miners off second-half set pieces while freshman netminder Sarah Dilling registered five saves in her collegiate debut.
The Miners will lock up with the Huskies (1-1-0) and Lady Panthers (0-1-0) this weekend, and will be in search of their first 3-0-0 start since the 2008 campaign. UTEP also achieved the feat under Cross’ direction in 2002 and 2005.
The match-ups will be the second and third of 12 home games on the year for the Orange and Blue. The Miners are 79-12-3 at home since the start of the 2002 season.
