UTEP Signs Junior College Standout at Quarterback

Sports

POSTED: Tuesday, January 11, 2011 - 10:22pm

UPDATED: Tuesday, January 11, 2011 - 11:43pm

UTEP bolstered its quarterback depth for the 2011 season with the signing of junior college quarterback Nick Lamaison on Tuesday.

Lamaison earned All-California and All-American honors after leading Mt. San Antonio College to the number one ranking in the JC Athletic Bureau/California Community College Football Coaches Association (CCCFCA) this past season. Lamaison was named the Offensive Player of the Year for both the All-California and All-American teams.

The Mounties finished 13-0 in 2010 and defeated previously unbeaten City College of San Francisco, 34-7, to capture their second straight state and national championship. Lamaison completed 23 of 33 passes for 233 yards to earn MVP honors in the state title game.

The 6-1, 210-pound Lamaison completed 300 of 499 passes (60.1 percent) for 3,993 yards with 30 touchdowns and 12 interceptions as a sophomore. He averaged 307.2 yards passing per game. Lamaison threw for a season-high 422 yards at College of the Desert on Sept. 18.

Lamaison also played at Mt. SAC as a freshman during the 2008 season, completing 246-of-385 passes (63.9 percent) for 3,479 yards with 36 TDs and eight picks. The Mounties were 13-1 that year. Lamaison’s freshman honors included first team All-American by JC Athletic Bureau and California Community College Region 3 Offensive Player of the Year.

He played his prep ball at South Hills High School in West Covina, Calif., throwing for 2,411 yards and 17 scores as a senior.

Lamaison will have two years of eligibility with the Miners and will participate in spring drills.
