The UTEP softball team will continue its home stand when they face East Carolina at the Helen of Troy Softball Complex on Easter weekend. The Miners (12-16, 1-4 C-USA) and Pirates (10-21, 1-5 C-USA) will play a Friday doubleheader – game one is slated for a 2 p.m. MT first pitch.

Both squads are coming off non-conference games on Wednesday. The Miners split with Siena, winning game one, 11-1, in five innings and losing game two, 5-4. The Pirates split with North Carolina State, winning game one, 5-2, and losing game two, 5-3.

Game one of the Wednesday doubleheader saw a few Miners have career days. Freshman Jade Rodriguez picked up her first win, in her first complete game, as a Miner. Rodriguez threw five innings and fanned a career-high six Saints in the win. Sophomore Tahla Wade had a two-run triple down the right line in the second inning and drove in another run with a stolen base in the third inning. Wade’s three RBI tied a career high. Sophomore Ariel Armendariz crushed her first-career home run – a solo shot to right center in the second inning.

UTEP split with Southern Miss in its previous conference series (one game was cancelled due to rain), while Houston swept East Carolina in three games.

UTEP and East Carolina will play the third game of the series on Saturday at 12 p.m. MT.
