UTEP Men's Basketball Defeats Southern Miss, 59-56

Wednesday, February 24: The UTEP Men's Basketball Team, Ranked #25 in the nation in the ESPN/Coaches poll, held off a late Southern Miss rally to defeat the Golden Eagles, 59-56. UTEP led by as many as 15 points in the second half, but Southern Miss rallied off a 15-2 run to cut the UTEP lead to two. Southern Miss had a chance to tie at the buzzer, but the three-point attempt was no good. Randy Culpepper and Derrick Caracter led UTEP with 17 points, Myron Strong came off the bench to score 11, and added instant energy in the first half, when UTEP trailed by 9 points twice, 19-10 and 24-15. Gary Flowers led the Golden Eagles with 15 points, but Southern Miss turned the ball over 10 times, several of those were crucial in the second half. UTEP improves to 21-5, 12-1 in Conference USA. Memphis lost 92-75 at Houston, so UTEP is now up 2 games on Memphis and UAB in the Conference Standings.

I am a huge Miner Football fan... So i'm looking forward on the great upcoming season. As well as i'm a huge miner basketball fan.

Thanks for the post, the UTEP Football team should be better this year, expect good things from Mike Price and the Miners. This is the year to do it. As for the Basketball team, get ready for the NCAA Tournament!

It's great that our Miners basketball team is awesome... Hey they have to be good in something since they're not in footballl right. Hopefully someday they will be better in football as well. WE could only hope. LETS GO MINERS
