MINER LEGENDS
-
For the fourth year in a row, UTEP will be honoring past great players at halftime of this season’s home games.
-
Saturday’s Miner Legend is Steve Tredennick, who was a member of two NCAA Tournament teams in the 1960’s.
-
Tredennick was a three-year letterwinner for the Miners (1962-65).  Texas Western posted a 62-19 record during that span with NCAA Tournament berths in 1963 and 1964.
-
Playing alongside All-American Jim “Bad News” Barnes, the 6-1 Tredennick shot 44 percent from the field and 74.7 percent from the line.  He appeared in 69 career games.
-
He helped the Miners to a 25-3 mark in 1963-64 including a couple of NCAA Tournament wins over Texas A&M and Creighton.
-
Tredennick is a distinguished attorney who was named to the Best Lawyers of America on two occasions -- Banking classification in 1995-96 and Franchising classification in 1996-97.
-
In recent years he has served as a liaison to the 1966 Texas Western national championship team, including during the production and promotion of the motion picture “Glory Road,” and was highly instrumental in organizing the team’s appearance on a Wheaties box and visit to the White House.
