UTEP Golf finishes seventh

The UTEP men’s golf team posted two sub-300 rounds on its way to a 54-hole score of 891 at the National Invitational Tournament in Tucson. The Miners finished seventh at the 12-team tournament, which concluded on Saturday.
UTEP shot 303, 291 and 297 respectively. San Diego State was tournament champion with 282-284-293-859.
Leading the Miners was Jerry Castrellon, who carded a three-over-par 219 (73-74-72). He tied for 20th place.
UTEP’s Devin Miertschin (79-70-75-224) and Martin Simonsen (75-73-76-224) tied for 30th place. Luke Ovenden tied for 43rd place (79-74-74-227) and Jere Pelletier tied for 46th place (76-75-77-228).
The Miners will play in the Jim West Intercollegiate April 1-3 in Victoria, Texas, their final tune-up prior to the Conference USA Championships April 22-24 in Texarkana, Texas.
