UTEP Claims a Share of the Conference Title With Victory Over Rice

EL PASO, Texas (AP) - Jeremy Williams hit 6 of 7 3-pointers and
scored 20 points as UTEP defeated Rice, 78-64, in Conference USA
play on Saturday night.
Randy Culpepper hit four 3's and finished the game with 18
points. The Miners (22-5, 13-1) hit 12 of 25 (48.0 percent) from
3-point range.
The Owls (8-20, 1-13) were not as hot from long range hitting
just 6 of 19 (31.6 percent).
Arsalan Kazemi led Rice with 12 points. Lawrence Ghoram added 11
points.
Williams hit a 3-pointer with just 3-seconds left in the first
half to give the Miners a 45-34 halftime lead.
The Miners were leading 62-48 with 12:02 left when they went on
an 11-0 run to lead 73-48 and put the game away for sure.
UTEP finished in first place in the conference, while the Owls
finished 12th (last).
