UTEP Carrera and Troupe Tabbed NFCA All-Midwest Region
UTEP softball’s Camilla Carrera and Chelsea Troupe were tabbed All-Midwest Region as announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) on Thursday. This is the third all-region nomination for both seniors.
The all-region teams were chosen by NFCA member coaches from each region and all the honorees will now be eligible for selection to one of three 2012 NFCA Division I All-American teams.
Carrera was most recently tabbed the 2012 Conference USA Player of the Year and was named an all-league first team selection.
The slugger from Laveen, Ariz. belted 32 home runs and slugged 1.199 during her senior campaign. Both marks are the second-best in NCAA Division I single-season history. Her average of 0.60 home runs per game set a new single-season standard in the NCAA recordbook. Carrera's batting average of .453 ranks seventh nationally and her on-base percentage of 0.604 ranks third.
Carrera posted C-USA bests in runs (62), RBIs (66), total bases (169), and walks (49). The utility, who saw time at first base, catcher and as designated player, finds her name at the top of the C-USA record book with her tally for home runs and total bases, while her total for runs and RBIs have her second for single-season totals in league history. Carrera recorded 18-multi RBI games, 17 multi-hit games, and 7 multi-HR games during the 2012 slate.
Troupe, who was named to the All-Conference USA first team, was one of only two miners to start in every game for the Miners during the 2012 campaign. She blasted 19 home runs, placing her 10th in the nation in the respective category.
Troupe batted a stellar .426 in 53 games for the Orange and Blue driving in 44 on 69 hits and scoring 56 runs. She finished in the league's top-five in 11 major offensive categories. Her 0.37 home runs per game ranks 12th in the nation and the 1.06 runs per game she posted ranks 18th. Troupe’s on-base percentage of .519 finds her 26th in the nation.
