UTEP can rebound with win over SMU Saturday

UTEP (8-9, 1-2 C-USA) takes on SMU (9-7, 1-1 C-USA) in the first of back-to-back C-USA home games on Saturday at 7 p.m. MT. The Miners will also host East Carolina on Wednesday (Jan. 18) at 7.

UTEP has won five of its last six games in the Haskins Center, including a 70-50 rout of Houston in its C-USA home opener on Jan. 7.

The Miners have alternated wins and losses in their last eight games. UTEP is coming off a 59-48 loss at Tulsa on Wednesday, while SMU was beaten at home by Rice, 68-52. The Mustangs are 3-1 in their last four road games, including a 57-55 triumph at Tulsa on Jan. 7.

UTEP is 40-8 in C-USA home games since joining the league for the 2005-06 season (7-0 in 2006, 5-3 in 2007, 7-1 in 2008, 5-3 in 2009, 8-0 in 2010, 7-1 in 2011, 1-0 in 2012). The Miners have won 18 of their last 19 C-USA regular season home games dating back to the 2008-09 campaign.

The Miners have registered a 16-1 mark versus their fellow C-USA institutions from the state of Texas since 2005 (6-1 versus Houston, 4-0 versus Rice, 6-0 versus SMU).
