UTEP extended its winning streak to 13 games and clinched the outright regular season conference title with an 80-76 win at Marshall. Randy Culpepper led all scorers with 32 points, going 7-11 from 3-point land. Derrick Caracter was 2nd on the team with 18 points. Caracter spent most of the game in foul trouble and played almost all of the 2nd half with 4 fouls, but never fouled out.
Marshall's Tyler Wilkerson and Hassan Whiteside combined for 42 points.
Down 39-26 at the half, UTEP started the 2nd half on a 16-4 run to take the lead. The Miners led by double digits at one point, but Marshall climbed back into the game and took back the lead with under six minutes left. UTEP didn't get the lead back until the one-minute mark when Derrick Caracter hit a layup to give the miners the lead for good.
Marshall had a shot to tie the game with 12 seconds left, but missed. A Marshall player rebounded the ball and attempted to call a timeout, but it was not granted because he was falling out of bounds. Randy Culpepper made two free throws to seal the win.
