El Paso, TX — The only thing maybe better than UCLA quarterback Brett Hundley was the weather in the 80th Hyundai Sun Bowl. Before a crowd of 47,912, the Bruins sophomore quarterback accounted for 387 yards and four touchdowns in UCLA's 42-12 thrashing of Virginia Tech in the annual New Year's Eve game.
"Huge, huge. I think to get to ten wins in a season is something UCLA hasn't done in a long time and just to be a part of that is something very special for this program. Offense played great. Defense played great. Not just this game but throughout the whole year, even special teams, but just to put up ten wins in a season is something very big for us and to have that blessing is truly and honor."
Hundley was 16-29 for 226 yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for 161 yards on ten carries and two touchdowns, including an 86-yarder in the second quarter that broke open a tied ballgame. UCLA outscored Virginia Tech 28-2 in the fourth quarter.
Hokies senior quarterback Logan Thomas was knocked out of the game in the second quarter. Team officials said Thomas had a concussion, and would not let him back in the game. Backup quarterback Mark Leal finished 11-24 for 128 yards with two interceptions.
