Two Aggies Selected in MLB Draft

Two Aggies Selected in MLB Draft
Sports
Wednesday, June 6, 2012 - 3:37pm

Senior shortstop Zach Voight and junior catcher Zac Fisher of the New Mexico State baseball team were drafted by the Chicago White Sox on day three of the 2012 Major League Baseball draft.

Voight was selected by the White Sox in the 20th round as the 621st pick and Fisher was selected in the 27th round as the 831st pick. They are the first Aggies to be drafted since former Aggies Tyler Sturdevant, Jeff Farnham and Jake Wilson were picked in 2009.

Voight played shortstop for the Aggies in 2011 and 2012 and ended his career hitting .316 in 109 games played. He tallied 126 hits, 10 home runs and 94 RBIs, while posted 229 defensive assists and 124 putouts.

Fisher, who would be heading into his senior year if he decides not to sign with the Sox, has posted a .368 batting average in 149 games played over the past three seasons. He led the Western Athletic Conference in in batting average (.355), hits (82) and RBI (60) and was named a 2012 Louisville Slugger All-American (third team). He was also a first team All-WAC member and eared a WAC Hitter of the Week honor once this past season.
