Troopers swim teams aim for Regional title

Sports

UPDATED: Thursday, February 7, 2013 - 7:48pm

The Eastwood high school swim team has been dominant in District 1-5A.  The boys team has won 31 district titles, while the girls team has won 25 district titles.  None are more important than regional titles, and that's exactly where the Troopers find themselves.  In Lubbock, Eastwood will compete in the 5A Regional Championships starting with the prelims on Friday and the finals on Saturday.

The Eastwood boys are the two time defending Regional champs, looking for their third consecutive regional title.  They are led by Louisville commit Joe Brown, who swims the 200 individual medley and the 100 butterfly.

Head Coach Steve Flato credits a core group of Juniors and Seniors with helping make this the most dominant boys swim team he has had in 15 years.

"They're definitely not satisfied, so the teams they are going to face in regionals better watch out, because this team is ready to rock," said Flate.  Senior Joe Brown added, "It's all about the team, getting behind everybody, because people think swimming is an individual sport, but I can't tell you what it means when you look down your lane before your race, your team is standing there, it's just a team effort and everybody has to play their part."
