New Mexico State women's basketball head coach Mark Trakh announced that Samantha Donald, a point guard from Box Hill Senior Secondary College in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, signed a National Letter of Intent this week to play basketball at NM State beginning in the fall of 2012.
Donald is a 5-6 guard hailing from Melbourne, where she most recently earned 2011 Most Valuable Player honors at Box Hill Secondary College while averaging 11.8 points per game. Donald also averaged five rebounds, four assists and two steals per contest.

She led Box Hill to state and national championships as well as an under-20 state title as a senior at the direction of coach Natasha Main. In addition to team MVP honors last year, Donald also was recognized as the Most Valuable Player in the state championship final. Additionally, she earned Player of the Year accolades from the Knox Basketball Association in each of the past two seasons.

"We are so excited to have Sam join our team," NM State assistant coach Tamara Inoue said. "Her leadership and relentless attitude to win is something our program will benefit from. Sam loves the ball in her hands and will take it to anyone that challenges her".

In both 2010 and 2009 Donald and current Aggie guard Simone Ruedin teamed up to lead Box Hill to the National Schools Championship each season. Ruedin earned MVP honors in 2010 while Donald claimed the accolade in 2009.

In 2010 and 2011 Donald was a member of the Australian senior school team. Donald and her teammates traveled to the United States last year to compete against high school and junior college teams. The Australian squad posted a 7-2 record in those international games.

Sam Donald is the fourth recruit inked by the Aggie coaching staff for the 2012-13 signing class joining fall signees Abby Scott, a 6-1 guard from Madras Ore., Sasha Weber, a 6-0 guard from Lacey, Wash., and Shay Young, a 6-0 guard from San Diego.  She is the daughter of Greg and Lisa Donald of Melbourne.
