Talk Circuit and Happy Humor win divisions of SPRC Claiming Series
Talk Circuit scored a narrow victory over Western Pine in the $20,000 Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino Claiming Series (#1 division) going 5 furlongs on Sunday. Ridden by leading pilot Miguel Hernandez, Talk Circuit forced the issue and opened up a commanding lead in the upper stretch and looked gone. In the final stages, the 3-2 favorite had just enough in the tank to hold on and win by neck in a time of 57.34 seconds.
The 14-time winner was owned by Tina Clements and trained by Justin Evans. He earned $12,900. The winner was claimed for $6,250 by new owner Joey Davis and new conditioner Chris Hartman.
Western Pine made a furious late run under jockey Ry Eikleberry and just missed in the runner-up. Metallic Mist was third beaten over 2 lengths.
Happy Humor claimed his 13th career victory with a resounding 3 length win in the 2nd division of the $20,000 claiming series. The wire to wire winner under jockey Macario Rodriguez roared through the five furlongs in a quick 56.60 seconds, missing the track record of 55.86 seconds. The eight-year-old Distorted Humor gelding rocketed through fractions of 21.42 and 44.08 seconds and still had plenty of energy for the stretch run. The former stakes winner earned $12,840 for owner Gary Thompson of Odessa, Texas. The former stakes winner has earned over $250,000 in his productive career. Happy Humor was claimed out of the race for $6,250 by new owners J.P. Lewis and Raymond Simpson. His new trainer is Weston Martin.
SunRay Park track record holder Fast Devon tried hard and earned second followed by Yukon Bull.
