New Mexico State men's basketball senior forward Bandja Sy has been named the WAC Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 28-Feb. 3. This is his first career honor and the first of the season for the Aggies.

Sy led NM State to a pair of road wins at Texas State and UTSA. He made his first six shots from the field and scored 14 of the Aggies' first 16 points. It marked Sy's third 20-plus point game of the year. He hit 9-of-11 shots from the field, including a 2-of-2 mark from long range. He also hit 4-of-5 shots from the charity stripe against the Bobcats. In the 75-62 win at UTSA, Sy scored 17 points and pulled down seven rebounds. He connected on 8-of-12 shots from the field and recorded three assists, a blocked shot and a steal.

On the week, Sy averaged 20.5 points, 10.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. He shot 73.9 percent (17-of-23) from the field, 100 percent (2-of-2) from three-point range and 62.5 percent (5-of-8) from the free throw line. Sy recorded five assists, one block and a steal over the two games.
