Friday, July 16:  The largest outdoor swimming event in El Paso will take place over the next two weekends with the Gus and Goldie Private League Swimming Championships and the Gus and Goldie Public League Championships next weekend.  The meets will be at the Pavo Real Aquatic Center, the largest outdoor swimming facility in the city.  El Paso's Blue Dolphin Swim club will compete in the Public Championships.  Blue Dolphin Coach Jim Kehrle said, "It makes our kids a lot hungrier. It makes everybody who comes in here, they know that they're going to have to bring their A game to compete against us. We like that underdog feel, we like being that team that you've got to watch out for."

Swimmer Miles Mindivil added, "I'm kind of nervous actually, to be honest, knowing that there's this one kid from another pool that can beat me in the backstroke. I've swum against him. I'm going to have to really try at this meet."
