Sunland Derby Winner To Run in Big Race Saturday
2010 Sunland Derby (Gr. III) winner Endorsement runs in the $750,000 Whitney Invitational Handicap (Gr. I) on Saturday at Saratoga Race Course. The major league one and one-eighth mile event will be simulcast at Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino.
Endorsement will be squaring off against some of the nation’s finest older horses. Since winning Sunland Park’s biggest race, the five-year-old Distorted Humor stallion has overcome physical setbacks and won two races including the Texas Mile (Gr. III) at Lone Star Park. Endorsement also holds the track record for one and one-sixteenth miles at Gulfstream Park. Last spring, the $619,000 stakes winner ran a terrific third beaten only one length to Alternation in the Pimlico Special (Gr. III). Former leading Southern California rider Joel Rosario will be in the saddle for trainer Eoin Harty and the Casner Racing Stable.
Santa Anita Handicap (Gr. I) and Stephen Foster Handicap (Gr. I) winner Ron the Greek should be one of the favorites. Graded stakes winners Fort Larned, Rule, Hunters Bay, Caixa Electronica, Flat Out, Hymn Book and Trickmeister round out a star studded field in the 10th race.
Simulcasting from Saratoga begins at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
2011 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner Hansen will compete in the $750,000 West Virginia Derby simulcast from Mountaineer Park on Saturday. First post time is 12 noon. Past performances and programs are now on sale at the Sunland Park program stand.
