Stone Nears Record as UTEP Prepares to Host Arkansas P.B.
With 561 career assists, Julyan Stone needs two to tie Tim Hardaway’s school record, and three to break it. Stone is fourth on the Conference USA assist list, 14 shy of TCU’s Corey Santee who is in third place.
UTEP (5-2) comes off a 12-day break in games and hosts winless Arkansas-Pine Bluff (0-7) on Sunday at the Haskins Center. It begins a busy stretch for the Miners, who will play five games in 12 days leading into the Christmas holiday. UTEP has four home games scheduled in the next nine days, including facing Louisiana-Monroe on Dec. 15, Texas Tech on Dec. 18 and Stephen F. Austin on Dec. 20. The four-game homestand ties the Miners’ longest of the season.
Following a 66-61 loss to Pacific in the season opener on Nov. 12, UTEP has won five of its last six games, including a 74-72 victory at NM State in its last action on Nov. 30. The Miners completed their fifth season sweep of the I-10 rival Aggies in the last eight seasons. UTEP also pulled within a game of squaring the all-time series with NMSU, which holds a 101-100 edge in games played versus the Miners.
UTEP will play seven games in the month of December. The Miners were 5-2 in December last season, closing the month on a four-game winning streak.
