State Representative Dee Margo presented the Coronado Cross Country Team with a resolution commending them for their display of courage and kindness at the time they provided help and rescue to Ms. Deborah Whitcomb when she was in need.
During a training run this summer, Christopher Hernandez, Shanahan Vigil, Rachel Schlinke, Aryana Martinez, Karime Martinez, and Tatyana Tarabulski were jogging on the east side of El Paso when they heard cries for help, stopped and attended to a women with a broken hip.
Sophomore Aryana Martinez said, "It's really neat to all be honored like this, but I honestly don't feel like I did something special, because I feel like everybody else would do the same thing." Sophomore Christopher Hernandez added, "We appreciate, the whole team, appreciates the award, but we as a team believe that it's not necessary for us to be awarded this way, and we were glad to go out of our way to help this woman." State Rep Dee Margo said, "It's not just the high school kids, you don't see it in a lot of adults, so I think it speaks volumes about the caliber of individuals here at Coronado."
