Rotich Earns National Athlete of the Week Honorable Mention
Rotich Earns USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week Honorable Mention New Orleans, La. – UTEP’s track and field Anthony Rotich was named the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association National Athlete of the Week Honorable Mention on Monday.
The distance runner had a stellar performance at the Cherry and Silver Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. where he posted the fastest time in the nation in two events. The sophomore crossed the finish line first in the mile with a personal-best time of 4:08.48. With altitude conversions, Rotich time is 4:03.07 earning him the No. 1 spot in the national rankings.
The Kenyan native didn’t stop there as he claimed another first-place finish in the 3,000m registering a time of 8:11.51. After sea-level adjustments, Rotich time is 7:59.40, which is the fastest-time in the nation in the 3,000m.
Sprinter Deon Lendore of Texas A&M was named the national athlete of the week, while Erik Kynard of Kansas State and Andre Dorsey of Kennesaw State earn honorable mentions.
