Riverside Baseball Aiming for 4A State Sweet 16

Sports

POSTED: Thursday, May 20, 2010 - 5:09pm

UPDATED: Thursday, May 20, 2010 - 6:33pm

Thursday, May 20:  In Baseball, the Riverside Rangers have been here before.  Riverside has won 15 district titles over the past 17 seasons, including a perfect 14-0 District 2-4A record this season.  Riverside has won eight Area Round Championships.  Now the Riverside Rangers are aiming for the 4A State Sweet 16 as well.  The 9th ranked team in the state is 30-5 overall, averaging 12 runs per game.  Next up is Wolfforth Frenship in the Regional Quarterfinals.   Riverside has won 20 of their past 21 games, and the production at the plate has guided this team.  Senior First Baseman Leo Garcia said, "I guess the hitting. The hitting comes through and I guess that is where we get our swagger from. But again we have to take one step at a time, and one game at a time. Whoever they throw up there, we are confident enough to hit them."  Junior Jacob Garcia added, "We have been getting a lot of runs this year, for batting, and it gives us a lot of confidence, and if we keep this up, we can go pretty far."
