This Saturday, New Mexico State and UTEP face off for the 89th time. For two Junior College transfers, it will be their first time going head to head in the Battle of I-10, but the two have been rivals on the field before they every came to their new teams. Kemonte Bateman, a Junior wide receiver transfer from Pasadena College who now plays for the Aggies, and Senior defensive back Travaun Nixon, who played at Ventura College before become a Miner, had heated battles on the grid iron. That has translated to their new squads and the two started up again earlier this week.
"I talked to Travaun earlier today. We just exchanged a few words. Nothing big, just tell each other to get ready," said Bateman.
Nixon replied, "He just said he had a game plan for us. That they are going to attack our defense. That we don't look that good on film. So I'm like, that's cool with me. He's going to see on Saturday night when we step out under those lights, it's going to be the real deal, Kemonte."
They'll get a chance to prove it at Aggie Memorial Stadium in just two days. Only 11,900 tickets to Saturdays game have been sold as of Thursday afternoon.
