Price Happy With "Exciting" Overtime Win

Sports

UPDATED: Sunday, September 4, 2011 - 8:39pm

In the preseason, UTEP Head Coach said he was not exactly sure what he had in terms of his 2011 squad. He knew there was talent, he knew there was youth, and he knew it would be exciting. The Miners lived up to their billing in a thrilling, come from behind, 31-24 overtime victory Saturday night at the Sun Bowl.

"I said we would be exciting. One way or another. Good or bad. We're going to be exciting. We are going to learn from this adversity," said Price. "I'm just very very pleased that we were able to pull out the win."

"It was a little more exciting than I would have liked but we can take a lot of learning things away from this game," said Junior College transfer quarterback Nick Lamaison starting in his first game for UTEP. The Junior passed for 365 yards and 3 touchdown with 2 interceptions. He also had 4 carries for 15 yards.

Senior wide receiver Donavon Kemp, who caugh 4 passes for 114 yards and the game winning touchdown, added, "I feel like, that's what the team needed. We need some adversity so we can come together, show each other what we can do and how we can keep pushing."

The Miners open up conference play next at Gerald Ford Stadium against Southern Methodist on Saturday.

The game seemed to be a bit disappointing at times, but let the Miner fans not forget Virginia Tech was beaten by the DIV I AA team James Madison last year in an upset. So be pleased that we are coming together, and allow for the cohesion to be built. If Nick Lamaison can play with the same character he had tonight, expect some close games and possibly a few upsets against the other conference foes. UTEP will make it to a bowl game, Go Miners!!!
