PCL Commissioner Talks About El Paso Triple-A Baseball Team

Wednesday, July 11, 2012 - 4:19pm

The Pacific Coast League is holding their signature event, the Triple-A All Star Game tonight in Buffalo, New York.  While there, PCL Staff and Team Owners discussed the potential sale of the Tucson Padres to El Paso's MountainStar Sports Group, and the potential move of the team to El Paso.  From all accounts, it sounded as PCL Commissioner Branch Rickey III was very optimistic that a vote could come this week, and very optimistic again that the team would move to El Paso.

"I can tell you there is considerable interest, and we're approaching it very cautiously. Trying to do something on an expedited rate, because we know there are concerns that need to be addressed in El Paso.  We have one or two hurdles that are mechanical within our process regarding minor league baseball, that we are attending too, and I think there could be some announceable progress probably in the not too distant future," said Branch Rickey III.

Though a vote has not come yet this week, it could come by Friday, but definitely in the next couple of weeks, not months.
