Officials suggest MLS happy with soccer enthusiasm
El Paso, TX — The Chivas de Guadalajara vs. Cruziero of Brazil soccer match at the Sun Bowl Sunday, July 6 was used as a way to measure fan excitement for a potential MLS (Major League Soccer) franchise in El Paso. After 15,100 fans attended, despite rainy weather, Mountain Star Sports officials say the MLS officials were pleased at the turnout.
"It was a very positive night, the crowd was very enthusiastic, good size crowd, even though there was some threatening weather last night. Major League Soccer representatives were very pleased with the entire experience," said Alan Ledford, Mountain Star Sports President. Mountain Star Sports also owns the El Paso Chihuahuas, and the group is in talks with bringing a Major League Soccer franchise to El Paso.
Sports consultant Rick Horrow was also in attendance, and has helped Mountain Star Sports with the pro soccer league. "There are a number of next steps, regarding more games, regarding the stadium itself, regarding communicating a legitemate timeline to Major League Soccer, all of that will be in development. If the market is here, the ownership is here, the support is here, and the facilities are here, then we are on our way."
