Notre Dame, Miami Finally Arrive in El Paso for the Sun Bowl

Notre Dame and Miami have finally arrived for the 77th Sun Bowl, to be played Friday, December 31 at 12:00pm in Sun Bowl Stadium.  This is the first appearance for both teams in the bowl game, re-igniting a rivalry that heated up in the 1980's, but the two teams have not met in 20 years.  Today, both teams arrived to hero's welcomes at the El Paso International Airport, with mariachi's and folklorico dancers waiting to enertain.

Both teams joined their head coaches for an introductory team dinner at Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino, before hitting the practice fields Monday morning.

Miami Interim Head Coach Jeff Stoutland sounded enthusiastic to hit the practice field.  "I'm excited to started with practice tomorrow morning. We've given our guys a couple days off now so it will be nice to get back to practicing, to the game plan."  Notre Dame Head Coach Brian Kelly added, "Our players are relaxed. I think today is more for them. I'll start to crank it up a little bit starting tomorrow when we practice."

When the players arrived today, all were welcomed with huge smiles.  "I'm excited, I'm overwhelmed by the reception... All kinds of Notre Dame fans out, it's going to feel like a home game for us," said Notre Dame Senior Tight End Bobby Burger.  Irisn Senior Center Danny Wenger said, "I think every bowl game has their own sense of culture to it, that we all get to take in, It's supposed to be a fun experience, and it's something that we'll take forever with our football careers."

Miami Senior Running Back Damien Berry had never before experiened anything like this.  "It was amazing, a lot of hospitality, it was a great greeting, and we're looking forward to having a great time here in El Paso". Teammate and Miami Sophomore Defensive Back Vaughn Telemaque added, "Oh, it is outstanding. Being at home, everybody is talking about it, being here everybody is talking about it, back in Florida everybody is talking about it. This is exciting, it's going to be a great rivalry that we can continue."
