No Waiver for ASU, plus Sun Bowl Possibilities

No Waiver for ASU, plus Sun Bowl Possibilities
Sports
Friday, December 3, 2010 - 10:07pm

Newschannel 9's Beau Bagley spoke to Sun Bowl officials tonight, and they said Arizona State has not been granted a waiver to compete in the NCAA Postseason, so 6-6 ASU will be staying home. Arizona State defeated two FCS schools this season. That means the Hyundai Sun Bowl could still be without a Pac-10 representative for the December 31st game, that would happen if Oregon defeats Oregon State, and if Washington State defeats Washington this Saturday. Officials also told me Notre Dame is still in play, but Sun Bowl fans would need a victory by UCONN over South Florida AND West Virginia to defeat Rutgers, both possibilities. If that happens, the Champs Sports Bowl would likely take Big East Runner-up West Virginia (9-3) over Notre Dame (7-5). If that happens, Notre Dame would fall to the Sun Bowl. Other possibilities are Louisville (6-6) to take that vacant Pac-10 slot.
