Good news today for Dallas Cowboys' Tight End Jason Witten. Doctors told Witten that the bleeding in his spleen has stopped and he will not need season-ending surgery. Witten was injured August 15th in a pre-season game against the Raiders. The doctors say that Witten's spleen should heal on it's own. Witten is shooting for a return to action by the season opener against the Giants on September 5th.
He's more likely to play in Week 2 against Seattle on September 16th.
The cowboys need Witten on the field, he's quarterback Tony Romo's main target, catching 409 passes for almost 5,000 yards since Romo took over as starter in 2006.
Witten has only missed one game in his career, and he's played through a broken rib as well as knee and ankle injuries.
