No. 1 seed upset in Las Cruces $25k USTA Pro Circuit Women's Tennis Challenger
Las Cruces, NM — Play continued Thursday at the inaugural USTA Pro Circuit Women's Tennis Challenger in Las Cruces, New Mexico, as the singles round of 16 and doubles quarterfinals competition was completed.
Friday's play begins at 10 am at the New Mexico State University Tennis Center with the singles' quarterfinal matches and the semi-final doubles matches are contested.
News of the day from Thursday was the upset of No. 1 seed Erika Sema (Japan) was upset 6-7(6), 6-3,-6-2 by Jelena Pandzic (Croatia). No. 6 seed Victoria Duval (USA) was defeated by fellow American Elizabeth Lumpkin.
Three players, Mayo Hibi (Japan), Elizabeth Lumpkin (USA) and Chieh-Yu Hsu (USA), advanced to both the singles quarterfinals and doubles semi-finals.
Saturday's play will feature two singles matches. The singles and doubles finals will be held Sunday. Play will begin at 10 am each day.
On Sunday, the doubles matches are scheduled to be played first. However, if either of the singles finalists has also advanced to the double finals, the singles match will be played first.
