NMSU's Karraker Named WAC Hitter of the Week
New Mexico State junior outfielder Bryan Karraker earned Verizon Western Athletic Conference Baseball Hitter of the Week for the week of April 25 - May 1.
Karraker, a native of Phoenix, Ariz. (Pinnacle HS), hit .636 (7-for-11) with seven runs scored, two RBI, two doubles and was walked twice as New Mexico State went 3-1 in a four-game series at Seattle. Head coach Rocky Ward is grateful to have a player like Karraker on the team because he is a threat both offensively and defensively.
"Bryan [Karraker] has caught on to our system here and is also great with the glove," Ward said. "He had a great week and came through with some quality hitting."
Karraker raised his batting average by 30 points, entering this past weekend hitting .306. His season average is now at .336 after he had a great offensive weekend against Seattle.
Karraker finished the week with a .692 on-base percentage. In game two of the series, Karraker went 3-for-3 with a double and a season-high four runs scored. In the series finale, which NM State won 8-3, he went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI to help the Aggies post their 30th win of the season.
The junior came to the Aggies from Central Arizona College were he helped lead his team to two separate Region 1 Championships in 2009 and 2010. During his two years there, he acquired two first-team all-region awards, second-team all-state and was announced as an NJCAA Rawlings Gold Glove winner in 2010.
The Aggies return to WAC play with a four-game series at Presley Askew Field in Las Cruces starting Friday, May 6 at 4:05 p.m. (MT). The game is scheduled to air on TV as a part of the Aggie Vision Productions.
