The New Mexico State women's golf team sits in fourth place with a 302 after the first round of the Club Glove Western Athletic Conference women's golf championship at the 6,163 yard, par-72 Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz.

Three-time defending champion San Jose State has an eight-stroke lead after the first round of the tournament shooting a total of 291.

Hawai'i's Charlee Kapiioho is the indivdiual leader after posting a four-under par 68 in a round that included six birdies and two bogies. NM State's junior Aileen Meredith is tied for second place with last year's defending champion, Idaho's Kayla Mortellaro, and San Jose State's Madeleine Ziegert. Meredith finished the day dropping five birdies and ten pars to lead her team with a 2-under-par 70.

SJSU has three players in the top six led while NM State's sophomore Demi Mak was the only other Aggie in the top 10 as she finished with a 3-over-par 75 to tie for 10th. Mak started the front nine with a 3-over-par and played consistent on the back nine with a par on each hole.

Senior Ashley Elias carded a 4-over-par 76 and sits in 14th place and sophomore Ameli Buhl is in a tie for 21st with a 9-over-par 81. Sophomore Lindsay Reeve rounds out the Aggie lineup with an 11-over-par 83, tied for 27th.

In the team competition, Hawai'i is in second place at 299, followed by Idaho in third (301), New Mexico State (302), Fresno State (305) and Nevada (319).
