The New Mexico State volleyball team won its sixth straight match after defeating Fresno State (25-15, 25-23, 25-19) in the Save Mart Center, in Fresno, Calif., Saturday, Oct. 8.

With the win, NM State goes to 5-0 in Western Athletic Conference play and 16-4 overall. It was the second match of the week that the Aggies won courtesy of a sweep as freshman Meredith Hays led the way offensively with 15 kills. Senior Kesley Brennan played very efficient with eight kills on 12 attempts and finished the night with a .583 hitting percentage.

The Aggies out-blocked Fresno State 13-4 with senior Michelle Kuester getting in on a match-high seven total blocks, one of those solo. Senior Jennah DeVries tallied three solo blocks and added 33 assists on the offensive side of the net.

"We did a good job blocking tonight and our offensive production was pretty consistent," head coach Mike Jordan said. "I think we are not giving away as many points and we have learned some valuable lessons and that is why we have won six straight."

Senior Kelsi Phillips posted a match-high 13 digs and senior Brynja Rodgers added seven.
The Aggies came out in dominant fashion winning set one 25-19. The Aggies took an early 5-2 lead and never fell behind. NM State posted a .357 hitting percentage in the set, while the Bulldogs hit a negative hitting percentage. Fresno State pulled to within three at 10-7 but NM State pulled away and went on a 15-8 scoring rally to pick up the win.

Set two was a bit more competitive as the Bulldogs hit .242 and marked two service aces. That was not enough as NM State posted 16 kills and two blocks to push its way to a 25-23 win. NM State fell behind 4-1 and fought back to tie the set at 10 all. A kill by Hays gave NM State an 11-10 lead but FSU would regain the lead at 20-19 before a kill late in the set by Kuester gave the Aggies a 23-22 lead. The set ended on an attack error by a Bulldog middle hitter.

The Aggies held FSU to a .000 hitting percentage and blocked the Bulldogs five times in set three to win 25-19. Hays posted five kills in the set and started the set with a kill down the line. NM State marked a couple of errors in the middle of the set tying it at 10 and 11 before going up by three at 20-17 on another Hays kill. Brennan's eighth kill ended the set giving NM State at 25-19 victory.

The Aggies now look forward to a match with nationally ranked Hawaii, Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 8pm in the Pan American Center. That match will be aired on the radio in Las Cruces on KSNM AM 570 and will also air on TV on ESPNU.
