Head coach Mike Jordan recently announced that former Virginia Commonwealth University setter Ciara Brown is transferring to New Mexico State University to attend school and play volleyball.

Brown, a native of Fort Myers, Fla., is a 5-10 setter who was named to the 2010 Colonial Athletic Conference All-Rookie Team. As a freshman in 2010 she averaged a team-best 6.46 assists per set and handed out 40-plus assits three times, including a career-high 44-assists against Colgate on Sept. 3, 2010.

Brown followed her successful rookie season at VCU playing in only 13 sets during the 2011 season. She posted 59 assists, 23 digs, seven kills and two service aces as a sophomore.

"We're looking forward to Ciara joining our program. She's a very good athlete with a lot of experience at the setting position, which we need as well and she's a great young lady." Head coach Mike Jordan said. "We're really happy she's able to join us this semester. It gives her a chance to learn our system during spring practice and competition."

Prior to playing at VCU, Brown played at Bishop Verot High School under coach Wynn DePasquale and earned AVCA All-America Honorable Mention honors following her senior season. She led the Vikings to a 49-1 record in her final two seasons and handed out 715 assists as a senior, while leading the team to a 27-1 record.

Brown was also selected to the USA South 18 Junior National team and competed at the National Junior Tournament in Wisconsin Dells, Wis., July of 2010. She also played one year of basketball in high school.
