On the second day of competition, the New Mexico State swimming and diving team continues to break school records. The Aggies are in sixth place in the team standings with 116 points.

In the finals session, freshman Aliena Schmidtke earned runner-up honors in the 50 free (22.82) en route to breaking her own school record that she had set in the morning prelims. She also had an NCAA provisional time. Senior Gina Palombit scored for the Aggies in 12th place (23.73).

"We had some great swims and jumping that relay cannot stop us from succeeding tomorrow," head coach Rick Pratt said. "Haley's 500 and personal-best by over four seconds and a great swim. Aliena's 50 crushed the oldest record in the books. With only seven events gone, there are still loads of races left and we're excited for day three."

In the 500 free, junior Haley Gansneder and senior Brittney Moore provided points for the Aggies with 11th-place (4:57.69) and 16th-place finishes (5:07.75), respectively.

Junior Beth Cate paced the Crimson and White with a seventh-place showing in the 200 individual medley (2:05.17), and freshman Jessica Legge followed in eighth place (2:05.26).

In the morning prelim session, Schmidtke broke the school record in the 50 free (23.04) that had stood for nine years with a third-place showing going into the evening finals session. Palombit made the B finals in 12th place (23.86), while junior Alex Fenton qualified for the C finals in 17th place (24.04).

In the 200 individual medley, the Aggies had two swimmers qualify for the finals with Cate leading the way with a fourth-place finish (2:04.23) in the prelims, and Legge followed in fifth (2:04.24). Sophomore Katie Hack is also swimming in the C finals (2:07.04) after placing 17th.

Gansneder and Moore both qualified for the B finals of the 500 free with 11th (5:00.75) and 13th-place (5:03.44) finishes, respectively. Seniors Rachelle Bassen and Ana Smith are competing in the C finals after placing in 17th (5:05.37) and 21st (5:10.60), respectively.
