The New Mexico State soccer team hits the road again for a pair of matches in the Adidas/Gamecock Soccer Classic. NM State plays tournament host Jacksonville State, Friday, Sept. 2 at 6:30 p.m. and the Tennessee Tech, Sunday, Sept. 4 at 11 a.m.


Jacksonville State: The Gamecocks are currently 0-4-0 after four road matches. Jacksonville State fell at Southern Mississippi, 2-0, Aug. 26, and South Alabama, 2-0, Aug. 28.


Series Notes: The Aggies have a 1-0 lead in the all-time series after defeating Jacksonville State, 2-1, Aug. 27, 2010 in Las Cruces.
 

Previous Meeting: In its first match of the Hotel Encanto Aggie Classic, NM State beat Jacksonville State, 2-1. Forward Yolanda McMillion scored the game-winning goal in the 64th minute for her second score of the season. In the 46th minute, the Aggies tied the match, 1-1, when midfielder Mary Kate Koziol launched a shot from 20 yards away for her first career goal. NM State set a school record for shots in a match with 29.
 

Tennessee Tech: The Golden Eagles are 2-2-0 following a pair of road victories. Tennessee Tech defeated East Tennessee State, 2-1, Aug. 26, and UNC Ashville, 4-1, Aug. 28. Junior midfielder Kerri Reid, junior forward Sarah Gawthrop and junior midfielder Jacquie Watkins lead the Golden Eagle offense with two goals each. Tennessee Tech meets Louisiana Tech in the tournament's first match on Friday.


Series Notes: Sunday's match is the first meeting in school history between the Aggies and Golden Eagles.
Weekend Recap: In the home opening weekend, the Aggies won a pair of matches with shutout victories over Prairie View A&M, 4-0, and Houston Baptist, 2-0. For the first win of 2011, the Aggies had four freshmen score their first career goals in the match. Freshman midfielder Bree Luhrsen recorded her first career goal to give the Aggies a 1-0 lead during the 12th minute of action. Freshman midfielder Katie Smith, freshman forward Katelynn Tupponce and freshman forward Jennae Cambra also scored for NM State. Junior forward Yolanda McMillion had two assists in the contest. Sophomore goalkeeper Erin Wosick also recorded her first shutout of the year.


In the win over Houston Baptist, sophomore midfielder Mary Kate Koziol recorded her first goal of the season in the second half. The score was the first of the season and third in her career for Koziol. Senior forward Cassandra Branch also had her first career assist on the play. The Aggies added an insurance goal on a corner kick in the 82nd minute to take a 2-0 advantage. Junior defeater Courtney Irwin scored with a header on a pass from Koziol. Irwin's goal was her first of 2011 and second of her career, while the assist was Koziol's first of the season and number three as an Aggie.
