NMSU Football Spring Practice Report for Tuesday

The New Mexico State football team completed its sixth practice of the short spring schedule, Tuesday morning, at Aggie Memorial Stadium. The Aggies practiced in helmets, shoulder pads and shorts for just over two hours.

“Normally thru the first five practices of spring the defense is ahead of the offence,” head coach DeWayne Walker said. “So I challenged the offense a little bit, especially at the quarterback position and I thought they responded and had a really good practice. I put in a few game situations in at the end of practice to give the defense a chance to respond and they did. You like to see both sides of the ball grow and get better and I thought the offense did that today and at the end of practice our defense answered the challenge.”

The offense seemed to have the strongest practice, moving the ball up and down the field all day. Wide receiver Austin Franklin made several good grabs and running back Brandon Betancourt saw some big holes to run thru during practice.

Practice continues to be noticeably different than in years past as the intensity level was higher and the pace of practice was faster with a high energy tempo.

The defense started off slow to begin the practice but finished strong, as defensive back Cameron Fuller intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown. Linebacker Trashaun Nixon cut his way thru the offense to make a few tackles-for-a loss.

The Aggies will be back on the field on Thursday morning beginning at 7 a.m.
