New Mexico State cross country/track and field head coach Orin Richburg announced Wednesday that Erik Perez from San Bernardino Valley College and Nate Starr from Everett Community College have signed National Letters of Intent to compete on the cross country team for the Aggies beginning in the fall of 2013.

Perez competed in both cross country and track and field at San BernardinoValleyCollege. He focused on distance runs during track season and posted a personal best time of 15:22.37 in the 5,000-meter run and finished with a time of 9:02.41 in the 3,000-meter run.

Starr joins fellow ECC signees Hab Rubio and Aaron Campbell on the NM State cross country team. The three runners led the team to the 2012 Northern Region Championship. Starr also ran track and field for ECC and focused on distance runs as well as the steeple chase. His personal best time in the 3,000-meter steeple chase was 9:43.9, and he posted a best time of 15:34.29 in the 5,000-meter run.

“Having Erik on the team for next fall will provide our team with an additional seasoned runner that can handle the unpredictable twists and turns of the sport,” assistant coach Christopher Huff said. “The addition of Nate was pivotal to our team dynamic going forward.”
