NMSU Baseball Ready for Big Weekend Against Hawai'i

The New Mexico State baseball team (32-20, 7-13 WAC) wraps up its regular season with a home stand against Western Athletic Conference leader Hawai'i (30-21, 15-5 WAC). The four-game series at Presley Askew Field starts with a doubleheader at 3:05pm (MT), Thursday, May 19, which will be followed by a single game, Friday, May 20 at 6pm (MT). The series finale is scheduled to start at 1:05pm (MT), Saturday, May 21.

Three of the four games this week are scheduled to air over the radio waves on KSNM AM 570 in Las Cruces with Jeff Matthews giving the play-by-play action. Game two of the doubleheader, May 19, along with the games on Saturday, May 20 and Sunday, May 21 are scheduled to air, while fans can also listen over the Internet at www.NMStateSports.com for a fee.

Thursday, May 19 is United Way Day. All supporters of United Way can get into the game at a discounted rate of $4. Friday, May 20 will be Wells Fargo Day at the Ballpark. All Wells Fargo customers and employees get into the game at a discounted rate of $4 just by showing a Wells Fargo Bank Card. Saturday, May 21 is Senior Day. Come out to the ballpark at 12:30pm to honor NM State's six seniors in a pre-game ceremony. This is the last home game for Ryan Aguayo, Wes Starkes, Chuck Howard, Tyler Owens, Chace Perkins and Dan Reid. Please join along to thank them for their time and effort while here at NM State.

NM State organizations and groups have the chance to be the "Group of the Game" at NM State baseball games. To enter your group, group representatives must visit NMStateSports.com and complete the form. Your group will win a chance to get priority seating and a PA announcement about the group and a table to hand out information.

Also, don't forget to enter your child (12 and under) for a chance to meet the PA announcer and announce the batters for the Aggies. There will be a "Kidcaster" at every Aggie baseball game. You will receive an e- mail to confirm the date of your choice. Sign up for this and other fun promos at www.NMStateSports.com.  Aggie T-shirts are thrown out at home games when an Aggie player hits a home run and other prized are given throughout the game, such as a pizza from Lorenzo's Italian Restaurant during the "Lorezno's Inning."

The Aggies are 9-15 all-time against Hawai'i. NM State went 1-4 against the Rainbows last year, winning the series finale of a four-game series in Honolulu 10-7. The Aggies lost to Hawai'i in round one of the 2010 WAC Tournament 13-7. The first meeting between NM State and the Rainbows came in 2006 when the Aggies joined the WAC. The Aggies dropped two of three games that year, winning the final game 5-3 on The Islands. NM State won its first series over the Rainbows in 2007 when the Aggies won games two and three, 8-6 and 9-4 respectively.

The Aggies were swept by Fresno State last week losing 17-4, 15-7, 17-2, and 6-3. The Aggies are now 8-26 all-time against the Bulldogs and have not defeated them since round one of the 2009 WAC Tournament. Bryan Karraker had the best weekend for NM State as he hit .583 against the Bulldogs going 7-of-12 at the dish with four RBI and three runs scored.
