New Mexico State softball player Amber Olive was recently awarded with the annual All-American Strength and Conditioning Athlete of the Year award, The National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) announced earlier this month.

The award, in its 34th year of existence, recognizes a student-athlete’s dedication to strength training and conditioning.

Olive was selected by NM State strength coach Tony McClure and was among 229 collegiate and high school athletes from 98 schools with the award.

“Entering her senior season, Amber Olive has been a catalyst and leader to NM State softball success,” McClure said. “From her very first day as a freshman to the present, Amber has led by example.”

Olive ranked in the top-5 all-time in each of the physical test markers set by the NM State strength and conditioning department. She helped the Aggies capture their first NCAA tournament berth in 2011 after winning the Western Athletic Conference tournament title the same season. Olive has started in each of the Aggies 44 game this season and leads the team and the conference with a .413 batting average.

The senior has had a career season with career numbers in hits, home runs, triple and slugging percentage. She is a three-time Academic All-WAC honoree and has been an NFCA Scholar-Athlete for two seasons. She was recently selected as the NM State Scholar Athlete for the spring commencement of 2013.

NM State heads back out on the road to meet the Texas State Bobcats on April 19-20, in San Marcos, Texas. The teams open the series with a doubleheader on Friday at 3 p.m., and close out the weekend with a single game on Saturday at 12 p.m.
