NM State Athletics Announces 2013 Football Schedule

NM State Athletics Announces 2013 Football Schedule
Sports
Wednesday, February 6, 2013 - 11:04pm

The NM State Athletics Department announced today the Aggies’ 2013 Independent football schedule, perhaps the greatest home schedule in school history. NM State will face four teams from BCS conferences in 2013, including two of them at home. The Aggies will be one of six schools in 2013 to play an Independent football schedule.

The home schedule includes several high points:
• Seven homes game, tied for the most to ever be held in Aggie Memorial Stadium
• NM State will host two schools from a BCS conference, the first time in program history
• For the first time, a Big 10 opponent will play in Aggie Memorial Stadium (Minnesota)
• For the first time, an ACC team will play in Aggie Memorial Stadium (Boston College)
• Two Conference USA teams in rival UTEP and Houston-based Rice
• Mountain West stalwart San Diego State

“We are obviously thrilled to bring such quality programs to Las Cruces,” said Dr. McKinley Boston, Director of Athletics. “We wanted to take advantage of the flexibility of being an independent and treat our fans to schools and conferences that have never been to the Mesilla Valley. We think these teams will really resonate with our sports-savvy fan base.”

NM State will open the season with a trip to Austin, Texas to face the University of Texas on August 31. This will be the fifth meeting between the two schools, as the Longhorns hold a 4-0 series lead. The Aggies then come home for two games against Minnesota, Sept. 7 and UTEP on Sept. 14. The Aggies played the Gophers back in 2011, beating Minnesota for their first win over a Big Ten team. NM State will then take on the Miners for the 91st time in school history.

The Aggies then travel to Los Angeles, Calif., to clash with the UCLA Bruins for the first time in program history on Sept. 21.

The Aggies third home game of the season will be against San Diego State on Sept. 28, as the Aggies face the Aztecs for the 11th time in school history. San Diego State holds an 8-1-1 record over the Aggies. A trip to face I-25 rival New Mexico on Oct. 5 makes the third away game of the season. The Aggies and Lobos will square off for the 105th time in program history.

NM State will then host Rice University on Oct. 19 and Abilene Christian on Oct. 26. This will be the first meeting for the Aggies between these two schools.

The Aggies will then travel to Lafayette, La., on Nov. 2 to face the Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns. The Aggies and Ragin’ Cajuns were Sun Belt conference members from 2001-04. NM State held a 3-1 record against Louisiana during that time.

NM State’s final BCS opponent of the 2013 season visits Las Cruces on Nov. 9 as Boston College will take on the Aggies also a first for each program.

The Aggies final road trip of the season will be to Boca Raton, Fla., on Nov. 23 to face Florida Atlantic. The last meeting between the two schools was back in 2004, as NM State won 35-7. NM State will then wrap up the 2013 regular season by hosting Idaho on Nov. 30.
