New Mexico State’s Jack Nixon, the ‘Voice of the Aggies’ has been named the New Mexico Sportscaster of the Year, announced Monday by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association. Nixon, receives this award for the second time in his career, the first was back in 1980.

“It’s an honor to be recognized by your peers,” Nixon said. “I feel blessed to have this job for so many years in a great town like Las Cruces.”

Nixon, a native of Omaha, Neb., has been in the booth at Aggie football games and on the sidelines of Aggie men’s basketball games since 1976, bringing Aggie fans the play-by-play action. This coming Saturday, Jan. 14, when the men’s basketball team takes on Idaho in the Pan American Center at 7 p.m., Nixon will call his 1,000 men’s basketball game as the ‘Voice of the Aggies.’
