New Mexico State volleyball fans will get their first look at the back-to-back Western Athletic Conference champions on Saturday, Aug. 23, as the Aggies take on former NM State players during the annual Alumni Match. The season-opening match is set for a 3 p.m. (MT) start inside the Pan American Center and is free to the public.

The Aggies, who were picked to win their second-consecutive regular-season WAC title in the coaches’ preseason poll, will not only play against some of the best former NM State players, but will also hold an intrasquad Crimson and White scrimmage for the fans.

“It’s a fun weekend, we look forward to seeing former Aggies and their families,” said head coach and six-time conference coach of the year Mike Jordan. “I know our current team enjoys the opportunity to play against players they hear so much about as well as some former teammates.”

Among the alumnae returning for the match are former All-Sun Belt performer Stevi Adams-Maytubby, former All-WAC honoree and graduate assistant coach for NM State Kelsi Phillips, Kayleigh Giddens, Michelle Kuester, Whitney Woods, Bri Brown and former Aggie and defending WAC Player of the Year Desiree Scott.

Scott, who was also recognized as an honorable mention on the NCAA All-Region team last season, led NM State to a 21-11 record and a second-consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2013. She was named the conference player of the year after finishing in the top 10 in the WAC in blocks, hitting percentage, points and kills.

Jordan’s current Aggies are led by juniors Bradley Nash, Gwen Murphy and Taylor Livoti. All three were selected to the 2014 preseason All-WAC team.

NM State officially kicks off its run at a WAC three-peat when it travels to Salt Lake City, Utah, to participate in the Utah Tournament beginning Friday, Aug. 29. The Aggies begin their home schedule by hosting a couple of tournaments in early September. The highlight of the early schedule for NM State is two home matches versus top-20 opponents, BYU and Colorado State.

Season tickets are now on sale at the Pan Am ticket office or online at www.ticketmaster.com for only $50, which includes 12 home matches. As always, kids 12 years of age and under are free to all Aggie volleyball matches. For more ticket information please call the Pan American ticket office at 575-646-1420.
