The NM State men’s golf team opens the 2013-14 season on Sept. 8-9 at the 45th annual Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The 54-hole tournament is slated to begin with two rounds on Sunday with an 8:15 a.m. shotgun start, while the final round will begin Monday with tee times at 7:30 a.m. The tournament will be held on the 7,401-yard, par-72, Blue Course at the Eisenhower Golf Club.

Patrick Beyhan, Willy Hogan, Kenneth Fadke, Brett Walker and Travis Benson will tee it up for the Aggies this coming weekend.

“I’m excited to start and I know the guys are ready to start this season,” head coach Mike Dirks said. “We had a lot of success over the summer with some great play. The qualifying to go to Air Force this weekend was the best we have had since I came to NM State. We had a bunch of guys in the 60’s and low 70’s during qualifying. It was amazing to watch. Top to bottom we really qualified well. They are excited and they know that if we play well we can win.”

Sixteen teams are slated to compete in this year’s tournament. They are: Air Force, Air Force JV, Colorado, Colorado State, Maryland, Nevada, Northern Colorado, Southern Utah, UMKC, Utah, Utah State, UTEP, Weber State, Wichita State and Wyoming.

Last season the Aggies finished tied for tenth overall at 23-over par. Kenneth Fadke led the Aggies for the tournament, finishing tied for 31st at 5-over par, 221, carding a final round score of 7-over par, 79. Justin Shin was 6-over par, 78 in his final round, wrapping up the tournament at 6-over par, 222, placing tied for 35th.
