NMSU track and field heads to Albuquerque
Las Cruces, NM — The New Mexico State track and field teamprepares to wrap up the 2014 indoor regular season when they travel to Albuquerque, N.M., to compete in the Don Kirby Invitational on Feb. 14-15.
NM State comes off a successful New Mexico Collegiate Classic (Feb. 8), where several Aggies finished in the top 10 in their respective races.
Junior Diana Hawk finished in the top 10 in both of her races. She finished ninth in the800-meter run with a time of 2:19.56, then finished third in the 1-mile runwith a time of 5:00.86.
The Aggie underclassmen continued their improvement and were led by Paige Patterson, who competed in the 200-and-400-meter dash as well as the 4x400-meter relay. She finished first for the Aggies and sixth overall in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.37. She also helped the relay team to a sixth-place finish with a time of 3:52.37.
FreshmanAkuadasou Ezenyilimba finished 10th in the 20-pound weight throw with a distance of 14.90m (48-10). She was the top finisher for the Aggies in the event.
Fellow freshman Shaniece Prevot competed in the 600-and-800-meter run. In the 800-meter run, Prevot finished seventh with a time of 2:18.94, which places her eighth all-time for NM State.
Sophomore Latrice Brooks led the Aggies in 600-meter run and finished fourth overall with a time of 1:36.00. She also led the team in the 800-meter run, where she finished sixth at 2:17.44.
The Aggies have next week off then travel to Moscow, Idaho for the 2014 WAC Indoor Championships on Feb. 26-28.
