The New Mexico State men’s tennis team finished the home-hosted Aggie Invitational, Sunday, Sept. 22, with sophomore Liam Goldberg winning his flight and an Aggie doubles team taking the title in their flight.

Goldberg breezed to a two-set win over his opponent from in-state rival New Mexico, 6-0, 6-4, earning his first tournament title as an Aggie. Of his four matches this weekend, Goldberg took just one match to three sets.

Sohpomore Strahinja Trecakov fell in a tough, 6-3, 2-6, 7-6(4), match to his opponent from Northern Arizona, finishing second in his flight. While competing for third place in his draw, Naveen Manivannan ended the tournament in fourth place after falling, 6-2, 6-0, to his Lobo opponent. Germain Degardin finished in fourth also, after losing, 6-1, 7-5, in his final match of the weekend.

Manivannan and Thomas Douglas battled another pair of Aggies, Marc Westgate and Goldberg, in the final match of the doubles flight. Manivannan and Douglas won the match, 8-6, giving the pair their first tournament victory as a duo.

Trecakov and Jeremy Harlas competed in the finals match, but fell short to the pair from Northern Arizona, 8-6.

The Aggies head out on the road for the Balloon Fiesta Invitational, Oct. 4-6, in Albuquerque, N.M.
