The New Mexico State soccer team began its final non-conference home weekend with a 2-0 loss to Stephen F. Austin. The Aggies slipped to 2-3-0 overall, and the Ladyjacks improved to 3-1-1.

SFA jumped on the scoreboard first with a goal on a corner kick in the sixth minute. The score was the lone goal of the first half, and the Ladyjacks claimed a 1-0 advantage at halftime.
In the second period, SFA scored in the 61st minute of action for a 2-0 lead.

“We can battle, battle and battle all we want, and that was a great battling game,” head coach Blair Quinn said. “But until we make better decisions and choose to make good decisions and choose to care more than the coaching staff, we are not going to win.”

Defensively, senior goalkeeper Jessica Schutter recorded a season-high six saves. Freshman defender Maggie Sabik and sophomore defender Mikaela Haley helped the effort and played all 90 minutes.

Junior midfielder Katie Smith paced the Aggie offense with a game-high three shots, while senior midfielder Mary Kate Koziol contributed a pair of shots.

The Aggies conclude the weekend against UC Riverside, Sunday at 1 p.m. at the NM State Soccer Complex.
