New Mexico State cross country’s Diana Hawk was named the female cross country Western Athletic Conference Female Athlete of the Week for the week of Sept. 2-8.

Hawk, a junior from Albuquerque, N.M. (Manzano HS), won the Lobo Invitational, Sept. 7. She finished the 5K race in 19:14 and paced the Aggies to earn the team win over UTEP and New Mexico.

Hawk had a successful 2013 track and field season and carried the momentum into the cross country season. She earned individual first-place finishes in each of the team’s two races this season.

This marks the first time Hawk has been named the WAC Athlete of the Week in cross country.

Hawk and the Aggies will be in action on Friday, Sept. 13, in the Lori Fitzgerald Invitational in Chamizal National Memorial Park in El Paso, Texas.
