NMSU men's golf ends season at NCAA Regionals
Las Cruces, NM — The New Mexico State men’s golf team ended its 2013-14 season at the 2014 NCAA Regional Golf Tournament, Saturday at the par 72, 7151-yard, Rich Harvest Farms Golf Course. The Aggies carded their best team score of the tournament with a 25-over par, 313. NM State finished the tournament at 81-over par, 945 (317-315-313), placing 13th overall.
Senior Willy Hogan ended his collegiate career by leading the Aggies this weekend, finishing tied for 37th overall with a three-round score of 15-over par, 231 (74-76-81). His final round as an Aggie was a 9-over par, 81.
Sophomore Kenneth Fadke II carded a 6-over par, 78 in the final round of play, finishing his season tied for 42nd with a three-round score of 17-over par, 233 (78-77-78). Junior Brett Walker recorded his best round of the tournament with a 5-over par, 77. He finished 23-over par, 239 (81-81-77), placing tied for 59th.
Junior Pat Beyhan also carded his best round of the three days with a 5-over par, 77. He finished the tournament in 70th place with a three-round score of 30-over par, 246 (84-85-77). Freshman Luis Medina rounded out his first year with the program, finishing tied for 72nd with a three-round score of 34-over par, 250 (87-81-82). In his final round, Medina was 10-over par, shooting an 82.
Illinois won the regional with a three-round score of 16-over par, 880, followed by UAB (+18), Purdue (+30), Southern California (+32) and California (+32). Brian Campbell of Illinois won the individual title at 5-under par.
The Aggies earned the program’s seventh WAC title in 2013-14 and a trip to an NCAA Regional Tournament for the second straight season.
