NM State head coach Marvin Menzies announced on Thursday that sophomore forward Matej Bouvac will be transferring to Sacred Heart University at the end of this semester. Bouvac will be a junior entering next season at Sacred Heart.

Located in Fairfield, Connecticut, Sacred Heart is a Division I school in the Northeast Conference. The Pioneers posted a 5-26 record in the 2013-14 season with a notable win over Mount Saint Mary’s, who went to the NCAA tournament and lost to Albany in the First Four.

“I would like to thank Matej for his time spent at NM State and his contributions to the men's basketball program,” said Menzies. “We wish him luck with his academic and athletic endeavors in the future.”

Buovac played in 26 games during his sophomore campaign with the Aggies for a total of 193 minutes. He had his season-high of 24 minutes against Idaho at the Pan American Center on Jan. 11. Averaging two points per game, Bouvac recorded a 29.6 field goal percentage during the 2013-2014 season. In Western Athletic Conference play, Buovac played in 13 games and added 22 points helping the team go 12-4 in conference games.

Buovac played in 12 games as a freshman for the Aggies. In his first career appearance, he scored a season-high eight points on 3-of-4 shooting from the field and a 2-of-3 showing at the 3-point line in a 71-51 win over Missouri State (Dec. 22) in Las Cruces. Buovac shot 54.5 percent from the field (6-of-11) and 37.5 from the 3-point line (3-of-8) as a freshman. Buovac helped the Aggies to their second consecutive WAC Tournament crown as he sank a 3-pointer in the 65-49 victory over Idaho in the tournament quarterfinals (March 14).

The Aggies will be adding five new players to their roster for the 2014-15 season. 6'7" wing Jalyn Pennie, 6'5" guard Matthew Taylor, 6'10" forward/center Jonathon Wilkins, and 6'9" forward Pascal Siakam, who will be joined by returning redshirt freshman 7’3” center Tanveer Bhullar.
